Substance abuse is a critical issue among teens in our community, yet there are few affordable places to get help. ReStart is a residential and after school program for youth ages 13 to 17 struggling with substance abuse and one of very few residential treatment facilities in Northern California that young people and their families can turn to, regardless of income. Side by Side is a Joint Commission accredited mental and behavioral health community based organization serving youth and family members in four counties – Marin, Alameda, Sonoma, and Napa with and a staff of over 120 clinicians and professionals. www.sidebysideyouth.org 

 The Residential Youth Advocate (Counselor) provides individualized care and supervision of clients.  Overnight positions are awake positions. We have shifts available from 7-3pm, 3-11pm at $17/hr, and the 11-3pm overnight shift which is 17+3differential at 20/hr.  Full benefits, PTO and more. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop rapport with clients based on trust, facilitate peer communication and supportand instill a clear sense of personal boundaries.
  • Be familiar with client’s individual treatment plans and provide feedback to team 
  • Enforce rules of program, assist with client outings, room and bed checks.
  • Supervise clients’ daily health needs.
  • Medication distribution follow program procedures in distributing prescribed and over the counter medications. 
  • Respond to client crisis situations according to agency protocols and individual treatment plans.  
  • Oversee youth in completing daily chores, such as cleaning of rooms, doing dishes and cleaning common areas.
  • Oversee and participate in the cleaning of the facility, this may include facility laundry, cleaning of common spaces, cabinets, storage areas and refrigerator.
  • Logging regarding behavior and whereabouts, incident reports and if needed, notify police and missing persons’ reports for clients still missing at night
  • Overnight RC are expected to stay awake during his/her shift.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year working full time providing direct service to adolescents OR other experience working in related residential and/or awake overnight care;
  • Associate or BA degree and experience; OR registration as an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Counselor, meeting State of California requirements
  • Fingerprint clearance through Dept. of Social Services Community Care Licensing
  • Must be 21 years old or older
  • Clearance of TB test, physical exam, fingerprints and any other mandatory State/Federal requirements.
  • A valid California driver's license, personal automobile for use on the job, insurable by SHS’ insurance policy based on DMV record and personal vehicle insurance.

ReStart (Marin County)

Substance abuse is a critical issue among teens in our community, yet there are few affordable places to get help. ReStart is a residential and after school program for youth ages 13 to 17 struggling with substance abuse and one of very few residential treatment facilities in Northern California that young people and their families can turn to, regardless of income. Led by a multidisciplinary team, ReStart’s unique approach blends recovery, mental health, and daily coping skills to help youth overcome their struggles with substance abuse. Treatment plans are customized and include individual and group counseling, family therapy, parent education, adventure therapy, and recreation. ReStart offers both a 10-bed residential program providing 30 to 60 day treatment, and an afterschool, 20 hours per week program, providing up to 90 days of treatment.
