The Relief Residential Youth Advocate provides individualized care and supervision of clients.  Overnight positions are awake positions. (Read more about our ReStart program below)

Responsibilities 

  • Logging regarding clients’ behavior and whereabouts, incident reports, maintenance requests, medication charting, if needed, police and missing persons’ reports for clients still missing at night, and similar responsibilities.
  • Supervision of Clients/House Security: Consistently aware of physical location of clients throughout the night, given regular room and bed checks, facilitating clients in occupying appropriate locations.
  • Oversee and participate in the cleaning of the home. Ensure morning chores are completed; inspect house for health and safety hazards; assist with program laundry.
  • Develop rapport with clients based on trust, facilitate peer communication and support in the milieu, and instill a clear sense of personal boundaries.
  • Enforce rules of program in a manner that is consistent with other team members and the program. Follow supervisory directives.
  • Supervise youth’s daily health needs, particularly in completing the morning routines, communicate illnesses to day staff, distribute and chart medication, apply first aid.
  • Be familiar with client’s individual treatment plans. 
  • Respond to client crisis situations 
  • Overnight RTC are expected to stay awake during his/her shift.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus related experience in a social science field; OR
  • Associate Arts (A.A.) degree and experience; OR
  • Certification or Registration as an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Counselor, meeting State of California requirements
  • Minimum of one year working full time providing direct service to adolescents OR other experience working in related residential and/or awake overnight care;
  • Fingerprint clearance through Dept. of Social Services Community Care Licensing
  • Must be 21 years old or older
  • Clearance of TB test, physical exam, fingerprints and any other mandatory State/Federal requirements.
  • A valid California driver's license, personal automobile for use on the job, insurable by SHS’ insurance policy based on DMV record and personal vehicle insurance.

ReStart (Marin County)

Substance abuse is a critical issue among teens in our community, yet there are few affordable places to get help. ReStart is a residential and after school program for youth ages 13 to 17 struggling with substance abuse and one of very few residential treatment facilities in Northern California that young people and their families can turn to, regardless of income. ReStart’s unique approach blends recovery, mental health, and daily coping skills to help youth overcome their struggles with substance abuse. Treatment plans are customized and include individual and group counseling, family therapy, parent education, adventure therapy, and recreation. ReStart offers both a 10-bed residential program providing 30 to 60 day treatment, and an afterschool, 20 hours per week program, providing up to 90 days of treatment.
